Biju Phukan (18 February 1947 to 22 November 2017) was one of the most popular leading men of Assamese cinema. Born in Dibrugarh and educated there, he appeared in more than eighty Assamese feature films. He entered films with a small part in a song scene of Dr. Bezbaruah (1970), and in the same year played the hero in Baruar Sansar. Samarendra Narayan Dev's Aranya (1971), which won the National Award for Best Regional Film, established him as a hero opposite Bidya Rao. His song "Mon Hira Doi" from Bowari was also a hit.

Through the 1970s and 1980s he played the lead in dozens of mostly commercial films, and our database lists him in titles such as Lalita, Bristi, Dharmakai, Akon, Upapath, Manasi, Aporoopa, Agnisnaan, Papori, Maa, Pita Putra and Abhiman, with later credits in Hepaah (2003), Hiya Diba Kak (2014) and The Underworld (2018). Although mainly a commercial star, he also worked in parallel cinema, with Bhabendranath Saikia and Jahnu Barua, and in travelling theatre and television. He also directed films, among them the commercially successful Bhai-Bhai.

He contested the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat in 1999 for the Asom Gana Parishad and lost. He was a former jury member of the Indian Panorama and acted in a few Bengali films. He died at Apollo Hospital in Guwahati at the age of 70.

১৯৯৯ চনৰ লোকসভা নিৰ্বাচনত তেওঁ অসম গণ পৰিষদৰ টিকটত ডিব্ৰুগড় সমষ্টিৰ পৰা প্ৰতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা কৰি পৰাজিত হৈছিল। তেওঁ ভাৰতীয় পেনোৰামাৰ প্ৰাক্তন বিচাৰক আছিল আৰু কেইখনমান বঙালী ছবিতো অভিনয় কৰিছিল। ২০১৭ চনৰ ২২ নৱেম্বৰত গুৱাহাটীৰ এপল' হস্পিটেলত ৭০ বছৰ বয়সত তেওঁৰ মৃত্যু হয়।
