Story কাহিনী

In Kadamoni, a village far from the city, the educated, jobless young Hemanta Saikia is advised by Shivaram Kakati and his daughter Purnima to farm his own land. He takes to the idea of farming scientifically on a cooperative basis and, with a few other young men, applies to a nationalised bank for a loan. His plan alarms the village moneylender Umaram, who lends money against mortgaged land at high interest and would lose his hold if the villagers turned to the bank. Umaram also dislikes Hemanta's closeness to Purnima. Hemanta's father presses a rich city man, Nirmal Hazarika, to start a factory on the two bighas mortgaged to Umaram, but Hazarika's son Pankaj and daughter Arpana resist the plan.
