Alokar Ahban

Bimal, a dedicated cooperative officer, goes to a village to set up a silk cooperative society so that the villagers can be freed from the moneylender's hold. Malati, the village headman's daughter and the only graduate in the village, helps him in this work.

Before they can reach their goal they face many obstacles, not only from the moneylender and his followers but from the villagers themselves. The villagers treat Bimal as an outsider and accuse him of an improper relationship with Malati. The film shows how, despite all this, the cooperative society is finally formed.

Charu Kamal Hazarika directed the film for Do-Re-Mi Films, with music by Nayan. Bimal Jyoti Chowdhury played Bimal and Purabi Das played Malati.

Alokar Ahban won the Silver Lotus (Rajat Kamal) for best Assamese film in the regional language category at the 31st National Film Awards, covering 1983.
