King Harishchandra, a monarch renowned for his righteousness, finds his life upended when he inadvertently offends the sage Vishwamitra. To fulfill a vow made in a moment of divine testing, the King is compelled to relinquish his entire kingdom and wealth as dakshina, or sacrificial offering, to the sage. This act of supreme renunciation marks the beginning of a tragic odyssey that strips him of his royal identity and forces him into the harsh realities of the common man.

As the King wanders into exile with his devoted queen, Shaibya, and their young son, the narrative intensifies the psychological and physical toll of their plight. They are separated by cruel circumstances, leading the King to serve as a menial worker at a cremation ground, a role that stands in stark contrast to his former status as a sovereign. The film meticulously explores the internal conflict of a man who must choose between his duty as a father and husband and his vow to uphold the truth at any cost.
