Story কাহিনী
Prahlad Saikia of Madhupur village has two sons. He mortgages his land to send the elder one for higher education. The elder son gets a job, marries and settles in the town, while the younger son, Gokul, cannot study further for lack of money. After he elopes with and marries Rangili, a girl from the village, he finds no other livelihood and joins the army.
The couple have a son. When war is declared, Gokul returns early from leave to his post, is wounded in the fighting and loses his memory. With no word of him at home, Rangili assumes he is dead and puts on a widow's dress. Hard days begin for her family. The elder brother's wife, Mallika, takes them to the town on the pretext of sheltering them and treats Rangili like a servant.
By chance, a cricket ball strikes Gokul and his memory returns. He comes back home, and after some dramatic turns the family is reunited.

Reception সমালোচনা
The film found exceptional favour with audiences and surpassed the records of Ajoli Nobou, and is called the second real blockbuster of Assamese cinema. The song Mon Hira Doi was immensely popular with viewers.
Legacy
In Siba Prasad Thakur's filmography, Bowari came after Phaguni (1978) and was followed by Ghar Sansar (1983) and Son Moina (1985).
