Story কাহিনী

In the village of Ahatguri, Lalita meets Rajen Chowdhury, a social worker from Sibsagar. Trusting his promises, she gives herself to him, believing he will marry her. Four months later he sends her off to Guwahati with a boy. There she realises how dire her situation is, and by chance she reaches the house of Afzal Ali, whom society regards as a bad man. He shelters her as a sister, she takes the new name Mrinalini, and she gives birth to a daughter, Chandana, in his home.

Nineteen years on, Rajen Chowdhury is a respected figure living in Guwahati, with a daughter named Ila. He meets his old friend Trilochan Kakati, with whom he once misappropriated government money. Kakati is now an industrialist with two sons, Rajib and Sanjib, and Rajib marries Ila.

Sanjib, the younger son, becomes acquainted with Chandana, the daughter of Lalita, now Mrinalini. He learns that his father's factory was built with embezzled funds and that Chandana is Rajen Chowdhury's illegitimate daughter. Sanjib holds two old letters that could ruin Chowdhury's standing, and pressure and torment are turned on him to make him hand them over.
