Santaan

The film looks at young people left restless by the absence of proper guidance and by an unsure future. Its argument is that raising children into capable citizens needs a healthy economic and social environment, and that everyone carries some responsibility for building one.

Lalita, a widow, tries to ease the confusion of young men such as Jiban and Binoy with the force of a mother's affection. She urges them to build a new society through their own labour.

Produced by Lachit Chitram and directed by Amar Pathak, who also wrote the dialogue. Sound recording was handled by Avani Chatterjee, Saroj Italia and Kali Das. The music was by Prabhat Sharma, and Santaan was his first film as music director. He had earlier scored Achyut Lahkar's Blackmoney, but that film was never released.
