Hridoyor Prayojan

Ajay is the only child of a rich couple. Smothered by indulgence, he never develops fully, suffers mental disturbance and a hostility towards women, and is left partly incapable in his marriage prospects. His father Bijay Choudhury, who is blamed for how he turned out, worries about who will look after the vast property and decides to get him married, though few would give a daughter to such a man.

Sumita is exceptionally accomplished. Since her schoolteacher father died, her mother, widowed sister and two younger sisters have lived in hardship, and after her M.A. she badly needs a job. Bijay Choudhury brings her into his house as his son's wife. She marries to save her family, but she has needs of her own, and Choudhury, aware of this, pretends not to know.

Gauri Barman wrote the screenplay and dialogue from Homen Borgohain's story. The film was made under the Kamakhya Chitra banner, with sound recording by Amulya, and art direction credited to Gauri Barman and Bijay Basu.

Raman Baruah composed the music and Keshab Mahanta and Satish Das wrote the lyrics. The film also includes a borgeet by Srimanta Sankardev.

The film received an A certificate from the Censor Board, the first Assamese film to be given one.

In Gauri Barman's filmography, Hridoyor Prayojan came after Aparajeyo (1970) and was followed by Akon (1980).
