Story কাহিনী
Gopal and Sarada are a happy couple living in Goa with two daughters, Mala and Geeta, and a son, Sushil. Gopal earns a modest living teaching music, so he takes a ship job and travels far away. The ship sinks in a storm and many people die. With no news of Gopal, Sarada believes him dead and, for the sake of her children, reluctantly marries a wealthy man named Bijay.
Gopal in fact survives the wreck but loses his memory. Years later he recovers and returns to Goa, yet chooses not to disturb the family's changed life. Bijay learns of Gopal's return and feels threatened, and he tries to get rid of him so that nobody can intrude on the family he has taken over.
Production নিৰ্মাণ
The story has a chain of earlier versions. A Konkani film, Nirmon (1966), took its inspiration from Lord Tennyson's narrative poem Enoch Arden and won a certificate of merit in the Marathi section at the 13th National Film Festival. Rajshri Productions remade it in 1967 as Takdeer, directed by A. Salam, the director of Nirmon, with Nirmon's heroine Shalini again in a lead role. Takdeer won the Filmfare award for Best Art Direction and was dubbed into seven languages, Assamese among them.
The Assamese dub, titled Bhagya, involved Kulada Bhattacharya, Pulak Gogoi, Bhupen Hazarika, Jayanta Hazarika and Prafulla Barua. Bhupen Hazarika played a major part, and his closeness with Rajshri led to Chikmik Bijuli (1969) being co-produced by Rajshri Productions and his Kamrup Chitra.
