Tapan Das

Tapan Das is an actor, director and story writer from Guwahati who works in Assamese films, mobile theatre and stage plays. He began acting in school in the early 1980s and built his name on the Guwahati stage before moving to the screen.

His film debut came in 1984 with Pulak Gogoi's Sendur, and he has since appeared in more than twenty Assamese films. Titles in our database include Sutrapat (1987), Abhiman (1990), Pratyavartan (1993), Raamdhenu (2011), Samiran Barua Ahi Ase (2012), Surjasta (2013), Ahetuk (2015) and Borhxaranya (2016).

Outside cinema he has acted and directed for several travelling theatre companies, including Kohinoor, Bordoisila, Shakuntala, Hengool and Rajtilak, and later became associated with Theatre Surjya. He has also published books, among them Meghamallara (2008). He received the Rupkar Award in 2012.
