Sendur

The headmaster Barua built his high school by his own effort. His brilliant younger brother Rajiv gives up other careers to teach there and fulfil that dream. The land was donated by the brother of the contractor Jagat, who now covets it for a rice mill and mustard oil mill. He offers to let the school keep the land if Rajiv will marry his daughter Usha, but the headmaster refuses.

Rajiv loves Mala, whose mother works in the headmaster's house. The headmaster's wife first accepts the match but turns against it under the poisoning words of a scheming old woman. Rajiv marries Mala regardless, and they have a son.

Jagat learns that the deed of donation is kept in the school cupboard, and his men set fire to the building one night so the school committee cannot go to court. Rajiv dies trying to save the deed from the flames, leaving Mala a young widow facing great hardship.

Later Rajiv's friend Satyajit, an engineer, comes to inspect Jagat's government contract work and stays at the headmaster's home. When he will not be bought off, Jagat's son Gautam gathers villagers, accuses him of an affair with Mala, and beats him until he bleeds. Satyajit steps forward to mark Mala's forehead with his blood as sindoor to defend her from the false charge, but Mala stops him. She asks instead that the school be rebuilt, where her husband Rajiv will live on.

The film was produced by Prag Films and directed by Pulak Gogoi. The story is by Renu Gogoi, and the screenplay and dialogue by Hemanta Dutta. Assistant directors were Sanjib Hazarika and Bidyut Chakraborty. Make-up was by Jogen Das, art direction by Phatik Barua and Jogen Sil, choreography by Garima Hazarika and sound recording by Jatin Sarma. The music was composed by Dasarath Das, a leading music director of the travelling theatre, and the background score was by Nayan.

The film was a very big commercial success on release.

In Pulak Gogoi's filmography, Sendur came after Khuj (1975) and Srimati Mohimamoyee (1979) and was followed by Relar Alir Dubori Bon (1993) and Morom Nodir Gabhoru Ghat (1999).
