Firingoti

The story takes place in 1962 during the Sino-Indian war. Ritu, a widowed teacher, is transferred to Koronga, a small Assamese village whose school burned down ten years earlier. She takes up the challenge of rebuilding it, and the school starts to work under a huge tree.

A self-styled son of the soil who lost his job at the school wants to take it over. When Ritu stands up to his threats and physical assault, he returns with ruffians and sets the school on fire. Ritu is comforted by the villagers' promise to rebuild it.

Jahnu Barua wrote and directed, and Sailadhar Baruah produced. Moloya Goswami plays Ritu.

Firingoti won the National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film and the National Film Award for Best Actress for Moloya Goswami.
