Sailadhar Baruah (1941-2010) was a film producer from Guwahati, remembered for producing some of the finest Assamese films, most of them in a long partnership with director Jahnu Barua. The titles in our database are Papori (1986), Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (1987), Firingoti (1992), Xagoroloi Bohudoor (1995), Pokhi (1998) and Konikar Ramdhenu (2002). Many of these films won national and international awards, and he also produced Kushal and Tora.
He studied at Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School and took a science degree from Pragjyotish College. Outside cinema he was a sportsman and cultural activist who helped found the socio-cultural club Kristhi Vikas Sangha, and he was founding chairman of the Assam Institute of Mass Communications and Research. In 2005 he produced the Doordarshan programme Shruti Madhur.
He died in Guwahati on 10 January 2010. The Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards, set up in 2010 by the Sailadhar Baruah Trust, recognise cinema from the Northeast.
