Sarapat

Jiban is the only son of the landlord Ratnakanta Moujadar. Xewali, an orphan girl, is raised in the household almost as a daughter, and love grows between her and Jiban. Jiban goes to Guwahati for higher studies. Meanwhile the landlord's wife dies and he marries Sabitri, who comes between the two young people.

Through Sabitri's scheming Jiban is injured and left in hospital, while Xewali takes refuge in the home of Kartik, a poor, disabled man, where she gives birth to Jiban's son. Sabitri is unfaithful and keeps up her bond with her old lover Hemen. The landlord catches them together and, in a rage, shoots her and goes to jail.

To survive, Xewali breaks stones for a living. One day her little son goes missing, and a long search begins: the landlord looks for Jiban, Jiban for Xewali, and Xewali for her child. They finally meet, but Xewali is by then seriously ill in hospital and dies there, never able to return to the family she lost.

Anowar Hussain directed and produced the film under the Anowar Films banner, and it was his first as director. Music was by Mukul Barua. The film has six songs, written by Mukul Barua and Lakshahira Das and sung by Biren Dutta, Lakshahira Das, Jyotirmoy Kakati and Gunada Das.
