Anowar Hussain

Anowar Hussain was an Assamese film director and producer from Guwahati who made six Assamese features. His father, a government contractor, hoped he would become an engineer, but he chose cinema and studied filmmaking at Chetan Anand's Motion Pictures Art Academy in Mumbai, then gained experience as an assistant director in Mumbai and Kolkata.

He began his first film, Sarapat, in 1955 at the age of 21, making him a very young director by Indian standards; it was released in 1956. Natun Prithibi (1958) took up widow remarriage as its theme. His third film, Tejimola (1963), based on Lakshminath Bezbaroa's folk tale, won the President's Certificate of Merit for the best Assamese film at the 10th National Film Awards.

His later films include Paap aru Praischitta (1977), Sri Sri Maa Kamakhya (1983) and Mrityuhin Jivan (2000). Most of his films centred on women. He received a Dadasaheb Phalke Academy lifetime achievement award in 2010 and the Azan Pir Award in 2023.

তেওঁৰ পিছৰ ছবিবোৰৰ ভিতৰত পাপ আৰু প্ৰায়শ্চিত্ত (১৯৭৭), শ্ৰী শ্ৰী মা কামাখ্যা (১৯৮৩) আৰু মৃত্যুহীন জীৱন (২০০০) আছে। তেওঁৰ বেছিভাগ ছবিৰে বিষয়বস্তু আছিল নাৰীকেন্দ্ৰিক। ২০১০ চনত দাদাসাহেব ফাল্কে একাডেমীয়ে তেওঁক জীৱনজোৰা কৃতিত্বৰ বঁটাৰে সন্মানিত কৰে আৰু ২০২৩ চনত তেওঁ আজান পীৰ বঁটা লাভ কৰে।
