বান

Baan is a 1986 Assamese film directed by Charu Kamal Hazarika and produced by Do-Re-Mi Films. Set on the flood-battered island of Majuli, it won the Rajat Kamal for Best Assamese Film at the 1986 national awards.

Story কাহিনী

Majuli, a river island, is a centre of Vaishnavite culture, and every year floods and erosion batter it. In the name of flood control, government officials and contractors spread corruption. A young son of a freedom fighter stands up against this corruption, and that, in outline, is the story of the film.

Production নিৰ্মাণ

Charu Kamal Hazarika directed the film for Do-Re-Mi Films. Music was by Nayan and sound recording by Satish Chauhan. Purnima Pathak Saikia and Chandra Narayan Barua played the lead roles.

Reception সমালোচনা

At the 34th National Film Awards (1986) the film received the Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) for Best Assamese Film. The prize carried cash awards of 20,000 rupees for the producer and 10,000 rupees for the director.
