Production নিৰ্মাণ

The film was produced by the Assam Cha Mazdoor Sangha and directed by Nalin Duwara, who also shot it. Bharat Barpujari wrote the screenplay and dialogue from a story by Jogesh Das, which centres on the tea-garden labour community and life in the gardens. Barpujari had earlier written the story and screenplay of Kencha Sonoro (1959), another tea-labour film, made under the Assam branch of the Indian National Trade Union Congress.

Biswajit, Dhiru Bhuyan, Pabitra Barkakoti and Neemuddin appear in the cast. Jharna Saikia plays the main female role, Janaki. A student of Kanoi College at the time, she acted in no other film, and Ratanlal was her first and last.

Nirmal Chakrabarty composed the music and Nirmalprabha Bordoloi wrote the songs. Their numbers were quite popular. Among them, a song sung by Khagen Mahanta was later performed in a new style by his son Papon and has been well received by younger listeners.

Reception সমালোচনা

The songs of Ratanlal were very popular when the film came out, and one of them has found a new audience through a modern version.
