Kanchghar

Bijoy Chowdhury and Piyush Kanti Roy were technicians by training, diploma holders from the Pune film institute in editing and sound engineering respectively. They had asked the Assam government for a scholarship to study film technique but received no response, so they studied in Pune on their own and then settled in Bollywood, working on Hindi films for several leading production houses as well as editing and recording sound for many Assamese films. When the Jyoti Chitraban film studio came up at Kahilipara in Guwahati, the state's then publicity minister invited them to offer their services.

Chowdhury and Roy also did the editing and sound recording of Kanchghar. The story and dialogue were by Nirod Chowdhury, and the principal female role was played by Jayasree, a Bengali-film actress and one-time Miss Calcutta. Gajen Kalita and Pradyut Chakraborty were the art directors.

The music was by Jitu-Tapan, with lyrics by Bhupen Hazarika. One song was sung by the Hindi film singer Suman Kalyanpur.
