Story কাহিনী

The film is built around the way Assam's indigenous culture is beginning to fade under western influence, which has spread into every corner of society. As the present-day community embraces western ways, local culture and beliefs come under a kind of threat. The film insists, however, that the rich and distinctive culture lives on in the heart and soul of every Assamese person and cannot be permanently replaced, flowing on like the Luit (Brahmaputra). It argues that people should take pride in their culture and protect it from outside influences, with young people playing an important part, and it suggests that the youth cannot forget tradition and will return to their own culture as they mature.

Production নিৰ্মাণ

Prabin Bora wrote the story, script and dialogue, directed, and produced the film together with Samrat Bora for Bistirna Films. It was his fourth film as director, after Parinam (1974), Angikar (1985) and Prem Bhora Chakolu (2003). The film was cleared by the censor board on 15 June 2012 and released on 1 March 2013, making it the second Assamese film of 2013. English subtitles were used.

The title comes from a lecture by Bishnu Prasad Rabha at the Mirza session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and from a song written, composed and sung by Bhupen Hazarika for Phani Sarma's film Piyoli Phukan. Several scenes use bhaona, borgeet, sattriya dance, Bihu dance and zikir, alongside western dance, and parts of the bhaona plays Rukmini Haran, Parijat Haran and Keligopal are shown. Many amateur artists from Tezpur and Biswanath Chariali acted in it.

Dipak Sarma, a flautist, composed the music, with background score by Aboni Ranjan Pathak. Lyrics were by Prabin Bora and Bikash Baruah, and the singers included Parinita, Samrat Bora, Dibyajyoti Baruah, Dr. Gunin Basumatary and Dil Mohammad. Borgeet, zikir and Bihu songs feature in the film.
