Ratnakar

Jayanta lives in a remote village with his beloved daughter Dubori. When a teacher publicly reprimands Dubori for poor grades, he confronts her, and the teacher, Daisy, comes to sympathise and agrees to help the girl study. When street thugs insult Dubori and Daisy in a park, Jayanta disguises himself and thrashes them. Daisy sees him and learns about his past.

In flashback, Jayanta had been a kind-hearted enforcer for the Guwahati businessman Devaraj Choudhary and fell in love with Devaraj's daughter Manashi, who had no idea what he did. She urged him to quit and marry her, over her father's and brother's opposition. Manashi died in a car crash after giving birth to Dubori, and Devaraj sought revenge by trying to take the child, so Jayanta fled with her to the village.

In the present, Devaraj and his son find Dubori and kidnap her. Jayanta rescues his daughter.

Jatin Bora directed, produced with Navanita Sharma under J.B. Production, and stars with Barsha Rani Bishaya, alongside Nishita Goswami, Pabitra Bora, Chetana Das and Sanjeev Hazarika. The music is by Zubeen Garg.

Ratnakar was released on 11 October 2019 in 59 theatres in Assam and 11 in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Audience response was positive, with theatres almost 80 percent full for the first three days. It grossed 42 lakh rupees on its first day, reported as the highest opening day for an Assamese film to that date, and 49.5 lakh rupees on its second.

Its opening weekend showed that a mass-action Assamese film could draw audiences in multiplexes and in metro cities outside Assam.
