Mandira, the wife of a high-ranking police officer, lives a seemingly fulfilled life until she comes across an abandoned newborn surrounded by onlookers on the roadside. She takes the baby to the hospital, but a casual remark between the doctors stirs a long-buried memory: her own child, born from a premarital relationship and abandoned, whose fate she has never known.

Despite the constraints of her social position, her maternal instinct overrides every inhibition and she tracks him down to a modest home. He is now a young man living with an elderly widow who once worked at an orphanage and whom he calls mother. Guilt and love make Mandira overlook his gruffness and his resentment, as she tries to bring her son back into her life while the gulf between their worlds looms.
