Pratyavartan

Pragyan joins a company in the industrial town of Rangnagar as an assistant engineer. He shares a house with Bimal Bharali, a steel plant engineer about ten years older. Bimal is liked by everyone in town, though he drinks too much and seems gruff on the outside. Pragyan comes to see that behind this lies a gentle, sensitive man shaped by a painful past.

Pragyan also grows close to Moon Baideo, a schoolteacher who is the elder sister of one of his classmates. She lives in town with her daughter Munli, while her husband works far away.

Pragyan has long been involved in social work and does not confine himself to his job. He joins the town's literary society and later the workers' union, where he meets the labour leader Binay Basumatary. The company officials view this association with hostility, and soon the workers themselves begin to doubt him. Moon Baideo's unexpectedly harsh behaviour adds to his distress. Broken, Pragyan resigns and leaves Rangnagar.

The film was produced by Kabin Saud under the S.B. Pictures banner. Music is by Sher Choudhury, sound recording by Dipak Roy and art direction by Phatik Barua. Tapan Das, Arun Nath and Mridula Baruah play the leading roles.
