Ranjit Das is a filmmaker and editor from Assam who has worked in both fiction and non-fiction. He started as an assistant director on Dwijen Baruah's Mon Aru Morom, then joined Jahnu Barua's unit and served as chief assistant director on Papori, Halodhiya Choraye Baodhan Khai, Banani, Firingoti and the Hindi telefilm Tingkhong. He was also associate editor on Firingoti and Tingkhong.
His first independent feature was Pratyavartan (1993), followed by Sanskar (1997), based on a story by Mamoni Raisom Goswami. Both films drew critical attention. His non-fiction film All Alone If Need Be, about former Assam chief minister Sarat Chandra Sinha, won the Silver Lotus for best first non-feature film at the 1996 National Film Awards. His later documentaries include Return of the Dead Bird (Mumbai International Film Festival, 2008) and Holi: The Spirit of Colours, about the Barpeta Doul festival. He has twice served on the National Film Awards jury.
