Mimanxa

Sushila, an uneducated widow, is harassed by Harekrishna Baruah, a wealthy man of her village. To protest, she files a case in a lower court, but the complexities of the Indian legal system leave her bewildered.

Seeking revenge, Harekrishna files a case against her, and she has no choice but to seek bail. The man who secures her release then abuses her physically and tries to dominate her.

Sushila nonetheless shows courage and resolve and carries on her own struggle. In it she is helped by Bikram, a young man who is with Harekrishna, and by other decent people.

The film was made under the banner of Nirmali Arts, with Jayanta Hazarika and Mahadev Barkatakey as producers. Nirupama Borgohain wrote the story, and Ranjit Sharma wrote the screenplay and dialogue. Sheyr Choudhury composed the music, A. Sreekar Prasad edited, Mrinal Kanti Das handled cinematography, and Phatik Baruah was art director.

The cast included Monami Bezbaruah, Indra Bania, Bidyut Chakrabarty, Rajen Sharma, Narmada Devi Das, Renu Baruah, Alok Nath and Tilak Das, with the child artist Kuki Hazarika. The film was shown on Doordarshan on 23 February 1997 and reached cinemas in 1998.

Mimanxa was selected for the feature film section of Indian Panorama in 1994.
