Story কাহিনী
Dipu studies in the city thanks to the generosity of a poor woman, Malati, and later marries Mansi, who comes from a wealthy family. Their daughter Puja goes to college, where she falls in love with Ankur, Malati's son, who happens to study there too. Ankur ends up in conflict with another young man who also wants Puja.
Dipu himself stands in the way of the romance. He forgets the help Malati once gave him, and forgets that he too was once an ordinary middle-class man who overcame many obstacles to win Mansi. Mansi supports the young couple, and after an argument between the two, Dipu changes his mind.
Puja and Ankur elope, and Dipu goes looking for them at Malati's village home. Meanwhile Ankur's rival chases him to kill him. Seeing no hope, Puja and Ankur are about to jump from a hill when Dipu stops them. A bullet fired by the rival hits Dipu, but he survives. In the end, with everyone's blessing, Puja and Ankur are married.
Production নিৰ্মাণ
Ashok Kumar Bisaya directed and produced the film. Its title comes from a line in a song that his father, Khirada Kanta Bisaya, wrote for the film Lachit Barphukan: that song was re-recorded and used as the title song. Naming the film this way caused a controversy while it was being made, with objections that the title was vulgar. Ashok Kumar Bisaya later said in a television interview that the producers had also deliberately kept the dispute alive.
There are seven songs. The title song, with words and tune by Khirada Kanta Bisaya, was originally sung by Dipali Borthakur and re-recorded with Sangita Borthakur. The other six were written by Prasanta Bordoloi, Hemanta Dutta, Pratima Das and Bankim Sharma. Singers include Jitul Sonowal, Zubeen Garg, Shanta Ujir, Monchumi Rajkhowa and Mitali Choudhury, along with Bollywood singers Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan. Zubeen Garg and the Bollywood singer Sagarika Mukherjee made their playback debuts here.
Reception সমালোচনা
The film was a popular success and celebrated a silver jubilee week in cinemas. As of 2019 it was the most-viewed Assamese film. At the time it earned about 1.85 crore rupees, when tickets cost 7 and 15 rupees.
Legacy
Arriving after a long period of stagnation in Assamese cinema, the film is credited with reviving audience interest in Assamese films.
