Lotighoti is a musical comedy-satire directed and produced by Bhupen Hazarika under the Kamrup Chitra banner and released in 1966. It won the President's Silver Medal for Best Assamese Film at the 14th National Film Awards, and its music was very popular.

Story কাহিনী

The story centres on the many comic mishaps in the life of a man eager to make a film. He has no real knowledge of filmmaking, yet he sets out to make one anyway.

Bhupen Hazarika directed, produced and composed the music. The lyrics were written by Bhupen Hazarika, Nirmalprabha Bordoloi and Gajen Barma. Singers on the soundtrack included Bhupen Hazarika, Jayanta Hazarika, Ila Basu, Mohammed Rafi, Geeta Das, Anil Dutta and Manisha Sengupta. The song Jibonto jodi abhinoy hoy was filmed on Jayanta Hazarika and Manisha Sengupta. The cast included Bijoy Sankar and Vidya Rao, along with Kulada Bhattacharya, Ratna Ojha, Harinarayan Das, Jyotish Bhattacharya, Jawhar Roy, Nirupati Chatterjee and Baby Gupta. The film opened on 25 November 1966 at the Meghdoot cinema hall in Paltan Bazaar, Guwahati.

Reception সমালোচনা

At the 14th National Film Awards (1966) the film received the President's Silver Medal for the best Assamese film. Its songs were enormously popular, and its tagline invited audiences to think while laughing.

Legacy

In Bhupen Hazarika's filmography, Lotighoti came after Pratidhwani (1964) and Pratiddhani (1964) and was followed by Chikmik Bijuli (1969) and Mon Projapoti (1979).
