Story কাহিনী
Arup and Megh have one child, Jon, who longs for a baby sister, but Megh cannot be a mother again. Little Jon dies in a motor accident. The loss drives Arup half mad, and he soon leaves Megh. Megh stays on, in revolt against God. She meets the Mother Superior of a convent and, among the orphans there, finds the Jon she has lost, and tries to give all her love to one of them. The Mother Superior is reluctant to accept such special affection, believing that loving one child alone is a kind of offence. When a boy named Dip, who resembles Jon, is taken from the orphanage by force, Megh loses Jon again, resigns from the convent and walks out.

Production নিৰ্মাণ
The film began in 1958 at a tourist lodge in Assam, where Calcutta director Prabhat Mukherjee and others were discussing the flaws of an Assamese film that had just been released. Dr Khagen Roy, who heard the conversation, resolved to make a film free of such faults. With Tasaduq Yusuf and Paji Das, owner of Dutt and Company in Jorhat, he registered Kathakali Cine Producers of Nagaon and persuaded Mukherjee to direct. Roy gave the original story, Yusuf expanded it, Ramesh Sharma shaped it into a film story, and Mukherjee wrote the screenplay.
The actress Gyanada Kakati, who had started her career in Parghat (1949), was cast as the lead, and Margaret Anderson of Utpal Dutt's Little Theatre Group, who agreed because of her friendship with Mukherjee, played the Mother Superior. Outdoor scenes were shot in Shillong and indoor scenes at New Theatres Studio in Calcutta. The music is by Tarikuddin Ahmed.
