Story কাহিনী
The story is set in Barajaha, a village on the bank of the Pagladia river. Balabhadra Choudhury is a wealthy and influential man there, with ambitions of becoming an MLA. His only daughter Alpana, who studies in Shillong, is simple and unpretentious despite her family's wealth, and the whole village is fond of her. She comes home to spend a long holiday in the village, just as a devastating flood strikes.
Choudhury sees the flood as a chance to serve his own interest by offering a little help to the affected people, and he hands the task of carrying out the plan to his right-hand man, Nayan Baruah.
An engineer, Dilip Chaliha, arrives from the city to repair the breached embankment of the Pagladia and is lodged in Choudhury's house. As the repair work nears completion, Alpana and Dilip grow close. Nayan Baruah stands in the way, threatening that if Alpana must marry, it will be him and not Dilip. When she asks why, his answer leaves her stunned. She is now torn between the flood-hit villagers on one side and her own love on the other.
