Aei Maatite is a 2017 Assamese social drama written and directed by Dr. Sitanath Lahkar. Adapted from his acclaimed stage play Tamasa, it is the first full-length Assamese feature film centered on the evil of witch-hunting.

Story কাহিনী

The film addresses superstitious practices in rural Assam, where vested interests and witch-doctors target innocent and marginalized villagers under the pretext of witch-hunting. A rationalist activist and enlightened members of the community stand against the superstitious hysteria, striving to awaken scientific temperament and save vulnerable lives from mob violence.

Production নিৰ্মাণ

Dr. Sitanath Lahkar, a retired professor, wrote the screenplay from his famous stage play Tamasa and directed the project. Bibhuranjan Choudhury composed the music with lyrics penned by Lahkar himself. The soundtrack features songs by Tarali Sarma and a Bodo song sung by Jiten Basumatary. The cast includes Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Rupam Chetia, Monisha Goswami, Meena Ingti and Sasanka Samir.

Reception সমালোচনা

Released in theatres on 6 October 2017, the film was widely praised by social workers, educators and critics for its bold stand against superstitious violence and advocacy of human rights.
