Deb Kumar Bose

Deb Kumar Bose (21 September 1933 - 18 October 2024) was a Bengali-speaking Indian film director and the son of the noted director Devaki Bose. Besides Assamese films he directed the Manipuri film Matamgi Manipur.

His link with Assamese cinema began with Sangram (1968), directed by Amar Pathak, for which he co-wrote the screenplay of the hit film with Pathak. The first Assamese film he directed himself was Sesh Bichar (1971), which did not do well. He went on to direct Nishar Chukulu (1979) and Mainajan (1980), the latter being the title in our database.

Matamgi Manipur, released on 9 April 1972, is regarded as the first Manipuri-language feature. It won the national award for best regional film in Manipuri, and in 2018 Bose received the Karam Mohan lifetime achievement award for his contribution to regional and national cinema.
