Bobby Sarma Baruah

Bobby Sarma Baruah is a filmmaker, producer and screenwriter known for telling stories about the social and cultural life of Assam and the Northeast. Her first feature, Adomya (2014), explores the emotional world of women and won best film in the spiritual category at the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival. It was an official selection at more than eighteen international festivals.

Her second feature, Sonar Baran Pakhi (2016), is a biopic of the folk singer and Padma Shri recipient Pratima Barua Pandey. It won the Grand Jury Prize for best feature at the 15th Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and the audience choice award at the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival, and screened at 24 festivals. Her third, Mishing (The Apparition), is in the Sherdukpen language and based on a novel by Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi; it won the Rajat Kamal at the 66th National Film Awards. Her fourth feature, Sikaisal, was in post-production at the time of writing. She has also made short films, documentaries, music videos and television serials on indigenous folk cultures, and writes poetry.
