Bhabendra Nath Saikia (20 February 1932 to 13 August 2003) was a novelist, short story writer, editor and film director. Born in Nagaon, he took a doctorate in physics from the University of London in 1961 and began as a reader in physics at Gauhati University. He also played an important part in producing college-level textbooks in Assamese, and was founding editor of the weekly Prantik and the children's magazine Safura.
As a filmmaker he wrote and directed eight Assamese films and received the Rajat Kamal from the Government of India for seven of them. The archive lists Sandhyaraag (1977), Anirban (1981), Agnisnaan (1985), Sarothi (1991), Abartan (1993) and Itihaas (1995) among his directing credits. Agnisnaan, which he adapted from his own novel, won the National Award for Best Screenplay. As a writer he received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1976, the Assam Valley Literary Award in 1990 and the Padma Shri in 2001.
ভবেন্দ্ৰ নাথ শইকীয়া (২০ ফেব্ৰুৱাৰী ১৯৩২ৰ পৰা ১৩ আগষ্ট ২০০৩) আছিল এগৰাকী প্ৰসিদ্ধ ঔপন্যাসিক, চুটিগল্পকাৰ, সম্পাদক আৰু চলচ্চিত্ৰ পৰিচালক। নগাঁৱত জন্মগ্ৰহণ কৰা শইকীয়াই ১৯৬১ চনত লণ্ডন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ৰ পৰা পদাৰ্থ বিজ্ঞানত ডক্টৰেট ডিগ্ৰী লাভ কৰে আৰু গুৱাহাটী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ত পদাৰ্থ বিজ্ঞানৰ ৰীডাৰ হিচাপে কাৰ্যজীৱন আৰম্ভ কৰে। অসমীয়া ভাষাত মহাবিদ্যালয় পৰ্যায়ৰ পাঠ্যপুথি প্ৰস্তুত কৰাতো তেওঁ অগ্ৰণী ভূমিকা পালন কৰে। তেওঁ পষেকীয়া আলোচনী ‘প্ৰান্তিক’ আৰু শিশু আলোচনী ‘সঁফুৰা’ৰ প্ৰতিষ্ঠাপক সম্পাদক আছিল।
