Aimee Baruah, born in Nagaon, is an Assamese actress who began as a teenager and has appeared in nearly thirty feature films, several of them National Award winners. The Fita database lists her in Karma Ke Rati, Mone Mor Koina Bisare, Mahasamar and Bir Chilarai (all 2013), Nijanor Gaan (2018), Pratighaat (2019) and Rongatapu 1982 (2023).
She has also moved into directing and producing. Her directorial debut, the Dimasa-language film Semkhor, won two National Awards at the 68th National Film Awards. Her documentary Screaming Butterflies won the Silver Conch at the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival, and Birubala: Witch to Padmashree, about a tribal woman's fight against witch-hunting in Assam, received a Jury's Special Mention at the 70th National Film Awards.
She was the first actress from Assam to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival (its 75th edition), and the first Assamese actress to win Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Filmfare Awards Assamese in 2024. She has served on the jury and a steering committee of the International Film Festival of India, and is pursuing doctoral research on the films of Bhupen Hazarika.
