Story কাহিনী

The film begins with Sankardev's childhood at Bordowa in present-day Nagaon district. He loses his mother Satyasandha and his father Kusumbar Bhuyan early and is raised by his grandmother Khersuti. When he is twelve, he joins the tol of Mahendra Kandali and quickly masters the Vedas and Upanishads, earning the name Sankardev. At twenty-one he starts explaining the Bhagavata to villagers in simple language. He marries Suryavati, who dies after giving birth to a daughter, and then sets out on a twelve-year pilgrimage with seventeen companions to Gaya, Puri, Vrindavan, Mathura, Dwarka, Kashi and Prayag. On returning he establishes the Ekasarana Nama Dharma, a devotional path built on the name of Krishna instead of Vedic ritual. Opposition forces him to travel across Assam spreading it, and Madhavdev joins him.

The film also shows his gifts as artist, writer and reformer: the Kirtan Ghosha, Gunamala, Ankiya Nat and Borgeets, the Vrindavani Vastra woven with the help of weavers, the namghar for devotion and the satra for Vaishnava learning. At the court of the Koch king Naranarayan, he defeats other scholars in debate and the king wishes to take initiation. The film closes with the saint's departure in front of his disciples.
