Story কাহিনী

Mahat Saikia, an unmarried English professor of forty, devoted only to study and teaching, suddenly feels that love has passed him by. His friend and colleague Sanjib Dutta urges him to court Mayuri Baruah, a fellow lecturer at the same college, but Mahat feels nothing for her and decides that he has lost the power to fall in love.

One night, drunk and despondent, Mahat is visited by Kamdev, the god of love, who sends him to a five-faced rock where the spirit of Doyalu Baba lives. The Baba grants him the form of a teenage boy for three months, so that he may experience love. On the thirty-first of June, three months later, he must return to be changed back, or he will turn into a donkey. Mahat becomes Pritam and enrols in the college as Mahat's nephew.

Pritam falls in love with Pankhi, Mayuri's niece and Mahat's own student, who is two years older than him. He feels real love for the first time, until he realises that no thirty-first of June exists on the calendar. On 30 June he says a heartbroken goodbye to Pankhi and goes to the Baba, who tells him that he stands above time and can supply that date whenever Pritam likes. Torn and fearful of facing the consequences, Pritam asks to be made Mahat again, and the Baba agrees. Pankhi, having lost Pritam, is shattered, and Mahat discovers that he truly loves her. When he returns to the Baba to be made Pritam again, the Baba does not appear. Unable to bear her grief, Mahat tells Pankhi everything and asks her forgiveness, and in the end Pankhi offers him her own proposal of a "thirty-first June".
