Amitabh

Amitabh is an ordinary young man navigating the exhausting socioeconomic realities of Guwahati, armed with modest ambitions and a quiet perseverance. His life is upended when a sinister administrative syndicate orchestrates a high-profile urban conspiracy, maliciously framing him as the primary scapegoat. Stripped of his autonomy, Amitabh plunges into a Kafkaesque nightmare where every institution meant to protect him instead actively hunts him. As the net tightens, Amitabh must shed his naivety to survive. Aided by resolute allies, he embarks on a perilous cat-and-mouse chase through the labyrinthine corridors of power and the city's dark underbelly. The narrative crescendos into an explosive confrontation, forcing Amitabh to choose between self-preservation and systemic exposure, resulting in a haunting, bittersweet resolution that questions the ultimate cost of justice in a compromised world.

Director Dibash Darshan crafts a searing urban noir that dissects the underbelly of contemporary Guwahati through Amitabh (2022). Eschewing picturesque pastoral tropes, the visual aesthetic embraces claustrophobic framing, neon-drenched alleyways, and stark shadows to mirror the protagonist's psychological entrapment within an administrative labyrinth. The cinematography captures the duality of Assam's capital, juxtaposing its rapid, predatory modernization against ancient Brahmaputra mists. At the core of this visceral thriller is a powerhouse ensemble. Atul Pachani grounds the narrative with fragile vulnerability, while Kaushik Nath and Bhargav Kataki project chilling institutional menace. Suhana Rahman infuses the tense canvas with emotional gravity. Darshan's directorial vision relies on pacing that mirrors a ticking time bomb, elevating regional crime drama into a scathing critique of systemic corruption.

Released theatrically across Assam on August 18, 2022, Amitabh carved a distinct niche for itself in a market frequently dominated by formulaic narratives. The film resonated deeply with urban youth and critical circles alike, sparking vital discourse on youth disenfranchisement and bureaucratic apathy. Box office figures reflected a healthy urban turnout, defying the conventional constraints faced by regional thrillers. Critics lauded its uncompromising narrative grit, technical finesse, and the raw authenticity of its performances. Audiences flooded social media with acclaim, hailing the film as a watershed moment for Assamese suspense cinema, proving that regional audiences hungered for intelligent, high-stakes storytelling that confronts uncomfortable socio-political realities head-on.
