Suhasini Mulay is an Indian actress and documentary filmmaker, born in Patna in 1950 and raised by her mother, the documentary maker and film historian Vijaya Mulay. A soap advertisement brought her to Mrinal Sen's Bhuvan Shome (1969), after which she studied agricultural technology and mass communication at McGill University rather than pursue acting.
In Assamese cinema she played the title role in Jahnu Barua's first Assamese feature Aporoopa (1982), which won the National Film Award for Best Assamese film. She later assisted Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen, made over 60 documentaries (four of them National Award winners), and returned to mainstream Hindi cinema with Hu Tu Tu, winning the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
