Bridge

Bridge follows a young girl and her family in a flood-prone region of Assam. The film shows seasonal displacement, missing infrastructure and the difficulty of reaching education and healthcare. The missing bridge between the village and its neighbours is at the heart of the story, standing for physical isolation and wider social and economic barriers.

This is the first feature by Kripal Kalita, who drew on real experiences of flood-affected communities. The film was shot in flood-affected areas, in some sequences under difficult natural conditions.

Bridge was selected for the Indian Panorama section of the 51st International Film Festival of India in Goa, where it received a Special Mention in 2021. It won Best Feature Film in Assamese at the 68th National Film Awards. The Indian Express noted its focus on living with and responding to Assam's recurring floods, and The Times of India described its picture of village devastation during flood season.
