Badan Borphukan, released on 15 April 1947, is the fifth Assamese talkie. Directed by Kamal Narayan Choudhury, it dramatises the life of the Ahom-era official who, driven by ambition and revenge, summoned the Mansena (Mughal-allied army) to Assam.

Story কাহিনী

The film is based on the life of Badan Borphukan, who is presented in Assam's chronicles as a villain. Moved by political ambition and a desire for revenge, he invited the Man army into Assam. Lakshyadhar Choudhury wrote the story, screenplay and dialogue from this history.

A group of people from Guwahati led by Kamal Narayan Choudhury formed a company named Eastern Movies Limited to make the film. Choudhury directed it, and the filming was done at Kali Film Studio in Calcutta.

The title role was played by the stage actor Kamakhyanath Thakur, and the dancer Charuchandra Bordoloi played Chandrakanta Singha. Other roles went to Debabala Chaliha as the queen mother, Amalendu Bagchi as the Man king and Sarbeswar Chakravarty as the sannyasi. Gaur Goswami composed the music, with lyrics by Purushottam Das and Anandiram Das. Prem Saikia was the singer, and the songs included one beginning with the line about arriving along the flowering path of the garden of the heart.
